Attention: We have a new website!
Welcome, Willcommen, Bienvenido, Accueil, Benvenuto, Powitanie, Croeso!
Welcome to Visit-Whitehaven, My name is Luke Johnston and I am 15 years old, the town I live in is called Whitehaven which is in West Cumbria on the west coast of England. I have lived in the town all of my life and thought that the town was not 'Being promoted' enough and that it was being overlooked as a great holiday destination. I set up LJMedia in August 2013 to design websites and adverts and this is when I thought up the idea of Visit-Whitehaven. I set up the site on the 25th August 2013 and had support from the towns people straight away. I thought that many tourists came to the town but we didn't reach out as much as we could to potential tourists, that was my motivation to build and promote the site. I am launching a better service in 2014 which is called Go Local businesses can take out advert space at a cheap price to promote their business further. You may of heard of the site in the local media, Me and the website have featured in: The west Cumbrian News & Star, The Whitehaven news, CFM Radio, BBC Radio Cumbria, BBC Look North and ITV Look around. The new site is going to include a lot more and as I add the new stuff you can keep up to date under the 'News' tab.
This year I also took on the roll of managing Whitehaven Action Group. Whitehaven Action Group or WAG for short was set up in September 2013 to take control of the towns problems and help to promote it in a positive way. Rachel Holliday Co-Founder officially handed the group over to me as she and the other founders could no longer commit, I was already on the team but I have now been put in charge. The group which is on Facebook is currently being restructured to make it a better experience for everyone! The group which currently has over 2000 members also has a new sub-group under the same management called WAG Adverts Department supporting local businesses in order to let them have some FREE advert space.
Whitehaven is in West Cumbria, on the North-West coast of the country. The town has been around since Irish-Norse Vikings settled in the area in the 10th century. The town is described as a Georgian town and is referred to many times as a Georgian Gem of the North. The town is famous for its historic harbour and Georgian buildings. The Queen visited the town in 2008 to re-open The Beacon Museum on the harbourside. The town greeted her in true Cumbrian style as over 10,000 people came out in force with Union Jack flags in tow on the harbour where she greeted many members of the public and school children who all came to meet her. She came with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip). Whitehaven is a popular tourist destination with millions visiting each year and staying in the award winning local hotels who will greet all of them with open arms and quality service. The majority of the businesses in the town are local and pride themselves on quality products and excellent customer service. There are many attractions in the town which are famously visited by both the people of the town and the tourists. We can help you in many ways including suggesting accommodation etc. to meet your very own needs. If you are thinking of coming to the town and need help planning your visit then please do contact us by going to Contact Us. I can advise you using my vast knowledge of the town. Soon we will be adding more information about the town and the website is also currently undergoing its first ever major face-lift.
Whitehaven- Our Georgian Gem of the North!
"I feel what we have achieved in 2013 is excellent and can't wait until 2014!"
In the picture to the left Visit-Whitehaven and Whitehaven Action Group which I am proud to be a member of organised a local shop day were the locals were encouraged to shop local for 1 day! We had a fantastic response with local shop owners reporting an increase of 500 people in the town! We were very happy that we had achieved what we had set out to do! We are pictured to the left: From left, The Whitehaven Town Crier, Rachel Holliday Co-Founder of WAG, Geoff Garrity Lord Mayor of Whitehaven, Luke Johnston Owner Visit-Whitehaven and Co-Founder of WAG and lastly Sandra Garrity Mayoress. We held a raffle which we asked Geoff to draw in Richardsons a local fine wine merchants which raised fifty pounds for the mayors charity's which he picks each year and donates money generated through fundraising events. This was quite good considering we were only selling tickets for an hour! Thanks to everyone who attended!
